Words in the Bible

A few weeks ago, I found myself in need of some data on the words of the Bible for a message I was preparing. And so I stumbled down the rabbit hole of Biblical numerological data.

What I found was, of course, intriguing on a number of levels. And so I figured I would share it here. The following data comes from the Lexham Hebrew Bible and the Nestle-Aland Novum Testamentum Graece (28th edition).

The breakdown for each canonical book (using the standard modern titles) includes the number of words in that book, the percentage of the OT/NT that book represents, a cumulative word count for that testament, the percentage of the Bible that book represents, the cumulative word count for the entire Bible, and then ranks for the length of the book in the Bible and each testament, respectively.

If, for some reason, you want the data in Excel, you can download it gratis here.

Finally, below are some cumulative figures and notes, as well as some calculations by section of the text and traditional NT authors.

I hope you find this as informative and helpful as I did!

Cool! Could you also do one including the deuterocanonical books?
