  1. One thing I do know is that the Hellenistic Jews used the Septuagint, but the Palestine Jews didn’t use it. The Apocryphal books were only written in Greek, therefore despised by the Palestinian Jews. The Early Church made use of the Septuagint for sure, and there are also readings that match up with the Masoretic, which apparently had a parent text that existed during the time of Jesus. The Dead Sea Scrolls had texts that lined up with the Masoretic and the old Septuagint, but neither was exact all of the way around. The use of the Apocryphal books by the Apostles and Church Fathers seems to at least tell us that they viewed them as valid.
