Church Search Update

Assumption Greek Orthodox Church, Long BeachIt’s been a while since our last Church Search post and people have been inquiring about where we stand in our search, so I thought I would take some time to offer e brief update this morning.

First, I want to thank everyone for your prayers as we wrestle with various issues, for your interest in our search, and for the stream of suggested books/blogs/churches to consider/places to visit. From the start of this process, we have sought “accountability” through sharing our experiences online, and it’s been very encouraging to have people checking in with us, especially on those days when we’re really not sure what the next step is going to be.

Second, we’ve recently moved to St. Louis (MO) from Winston-Salem (NC), so there’s a lot of “new” at the moment. Accordingly, we decided to attend and plug into a church to help us with the “normalization” process, so we’ve been attending services at Faith Lutheran since we arrived here in St. Louis. We will be getting back into the active stage of our search soon, but wanted to get a little settled before we begin searching again in earnest.

Third, we’re still hoping to focus on three denominations during the “Second Phase” of our search: the Orthodox Church, the Anglican/Episcopal Church, and the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod. Of course, we’ve just moved to the heart of the LCMS here in St. Louis. But I’ve also been at Saint Louis University (a Jesuit institution) for a couple of months now, which is not dampening my esteem for Catholic theology. Again, this second phase will involve more extended visits within these denominations, including visits to multiple churches belonging to said denomination.

Again, thanks for following along with our Church Search. We look forward to sharing our experiences with you all in the future. Jake and Hayley Prahlow
