O God, we acknowledge You today as Lord, not only of individuals, but of nations and governments. 

We ask that today you guide the people of the United States in the election of officials and representatives.

We thank You for the opportunity that this election year puts before us, to vote and influence the future of our nation.

We ask that by faithful administration and wise laws, the rights of all may be protected and our nation be enabled to fulfill your purposes.

We ask for eyes that are free from blindness so that we might see each other as brothers and sisters, one and equal in dignity, especially those who view our candidates and issues so very differently.

Awaken Your people to a commitment to justice, to the dignity of each individual human life, and to wise discernment for the sake of our communities.

Lord, we rejoice today that we are citizens of Your kingdom; may that make us all the more committed to being faithful citizens here on earth.

Have mercy on your people. May your will be done. We ask this through Jesus Christ, our Lord. Amen.
