Welcoming Bree

Hayley and I welcomed Bree Carolyn Prahlow into the world on Wednesday (8.10) around 6am. Though several weeks early, Bree weighed in at 6lbs 11oz and is doing great (as is mom)! After a couple of days in the hospital, we three hope to head home today. Thanks to everyone for the congratulations and encouragement.Continue reading “Welcoming Bree”

Looking Ahead to Fall 2015

Greetings dear readers! After a busy and exciting summer, I’m looking forward to another informative (and similarly busy) fall term here in Saint Louis. As promised a couple of weeks ago, this post is intended to a) share what went on with me this summer and b) look ahead to what’s going on this fall.Continue reading “Looking Ahead to Fall 2015”

The Value of (Television) Narratives

At the risk of shocking some of my readers, I want to start this article with a confession: I was raised in a household that did not watch television. Or, at least, did not watch television that was anything other than the Olympics, Presidential speeches, or the occasional Chicago Cubs playoff collapse. In recent years, summer has meant work, as in, “Time to make money so you don’t die during the school year.” InContinue reading “Reflections Upon a Move”

Reflections on an MA

“A man who has been many places is not likely to be deceived by the local errors of his native village: the scholar has lived in many times and is therefore in some degree immune from the great cataract of nonsense that pours from the press and the microphone of his own age.” –C.S. LewisContinue reading “Reflections on an MA”
